the ultimate tragedy is to care so much about something, anything, anyone, that you cannot leave it to fend for itself, even though you know you have no power to protect it and passionately believe others with much more power will destroy it and destroy you, too, in the process. because then you begin to believe you are wrong, about everything. you doubt every move you make, every decision, every thought, even the value, the validity, of your own existence.
but it doesn’t matter, really. you care, but no one else does.
